It means that a skill is being used to express the artist’s creativity, or to engage the audience’s aesthetic sensibilities, or to draw the audience towards consideration of the finer things.
The number of different media is always growing: painting, sculpture, poetry, music, video art, performance art and art installations… With the digital age, new possibilities are added to some, and completely new art forms are created, like digital image manipulation or computer-generated art. With the advent of videos on the Internet which can be recorded, edited and uploaded from everywhere, all those art forms gain a new visibility.
